SOFA & CHAIR CUSHIONS

When grouped together on a sofa or bed, cushions are an easy accessory that can bring colour, texture and cosiness to your home. They’re a simple way to refresh a room and give it a seasonal update. Our curated collection of soft furnishings come in all shapes, sizes and styles, from floor cushions to linen and velvet cushions, ready to bring personality to your space.

SOFA CUSHIONS

Small accessories, like scatter cushions, are an easy way to bring style and personality to your home and garden. Whether spring is approaching and you’re drawn to bright orange and fresh green cushions, or we’re heading into winter and bolder navy blue and black cushions are more your style, we always recommend switching your home accessories to fit with the season. Use it as an opportunity to bring different materials into your home, such as cosy faux fur cushions in your living space and bedroom on chilly evenings, or breathable cotton and linen cushions for warmer months.

If you have a penchant for handmade homewares then we have a selection of vibrant embroidered cushions which are expertly crafted, or if you’re after a luxurious feel then our rich velvet cushions might be your calling. We also have an eclectic collection of styles here at G&G, from boho cushions, bright abstract designs, and sheepskin cushions to classic striped and floral cushions. You can extend this sense of comfort and style outdoors too – it’s a great way to bring unique style to all areas of the home.

HOW TO ARRANGE CUSHIONS ON A SOFA

When it comes to arranging the cushions on your sofa or living room seating, you want it to both match and enhance the aesthetic of your home but provide plenty of comfort too. For armchairs, you don’t need more than one cushion. And, if your chair has a traditional button-back then you don’t want to cover this beautiful detail either, so a short, rectangular or bolster cushion will be just right.

For a family four-seater sofa, we recommend combining a few large square sofa cushions in a plain block colour then layering a couple of smaller cushions in a colour or pattern which helps to tie your interior style together.

LARGE CUSHIONS

Large sofa cushions act as the perfect backdrop for layering smaller patterned cushions against. We advise picking a colour from your room and selecting large cushions in a block colour to match.

HOW MANY CUSHIONS TO USE ON A SOFA

Too many cushions on a sofa can look over the top and be uncomfortable. The idea is for your cushions to complement your sofa and enhance the aesthetic of the room, not overpower it. It’s a well-known fact in the interior world that grouping accessories together in odd numbers, such as three or five, makes for a more natural, relaxed and aesthetically pleasing look. So we recommend keeping this sense of asymmetry and curation in mind when choosing cushions for your sofa.

To give your home a coherent feel, why not pair these accessories with floor cushions, seat pads, pouffes or beanbags? And browse our quilts and throws to mix and match styles together.

Cushion FAQs

What are current cushion trends?

Current cushion trends feature bold patterns, earthy tones, and mixed textures like velvet and boucle. Popular designs include botanical prints, abstract motifs, and rich jewel tones.

What are the most comfortable sofa cushions?

Feather cushions are known for their softness and luxurious feel, while cotton or polyester cushion pads provide a firmer, more supportive option. The comfort of a cushion also depends on the cover material; options like sheepskin or wool add warmth and cosiness, making them perfect for lounging.

Should you have matching cushions on your sofa?

You don’t need to have matching cushions on your sofa. Mixing patterns, textures, and complementary colors can create a more visually interesting and inviting space.

Should my cushions match my curtains?

Your cushions don’t have to match your curtains exactly, but they should coordinate. Using similar tones, patterns, or textures can help achieve a cohesive look.

What is a standard cushion size?

The standard cushion size is 45x45cm (18x18 inches) or 50x50cm (20x20 inches). However, mixing different sizes and shapes can add variety and interest.

How do I re-plump sofa cushions?

To re-plump sofa cushions, fluff them daily, massage or shake them to redistribute the filling, and place foam cushions in the sun to restore their shape.

How do I wash velvet cushions?

Velvet cushions can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth for small stains. For a thorough clean, removable covers should be professionally dry cleaned to maintain their texture and color. Always check the care labels before cleaning.
