How to style rattan in your home

This summer has seen the revival of the seventies-inspired rattan trend, with a love of all things woven and a movement towards bringing natural materials into the home. As sustainable as it is beautiful, we’ve shared our top tips for styling rattan and cane furniture in your space.

1. LAYER UP

For a modern bohemian vibe, layer rattan seating with vibrant print cushions and richly textured throws. As rattan is so beautifully pared-back, it’s the perfect canvas for playfully mismatched soft furnishings.

2. PAIR WITH NATURAL MATERIALS

If you’re looking to be more sustainable in your homeware choices, woven wooden furniture is a brilliant option. Ours is handcrafted from sustainable rattan, a fast-growing vine, or mango wood, a by-product of mango farms. Both are incredibly durable so you’ll be able to treasure yours for years to come. Pair with other natural materials such as seagrass, bamboo and unglazed earthenware for an organic feel.

3. START SMALL

If you’re not sure where to start, begin with small accessories and experiment with a hint, such as a woven pitcher or wall mirror. It’s particularly lovely on pendant shades or table lamps as rattan creates the most beautiful shadows when the light is switched on.

4. DON’T BE AFRAID TO USE IN SMALLER SPACES

Rattan is brilliant in smaller spaces as its open weave lets the light through and gives a sense of airiness and space in even the snuggest of rooms. Its muted finish also means you can opt for more impactful pieces such as a rattan peacock chair without overpowering your interiors.
