5 Minutes With…. Bramble & Wild

There’s nothing quite like a bunch of beautiful blooms to instantly refresh your home. The perfect solution to a dull and rainy day, we recently popped into our favourite local florist Bramble & Wild to talk all things flowers with founder and owner Grace Haskins.

Tell us a little about your passion for floristry and how Bramble & Wild was born.

I have to admit that I completely fell into flowers and the trade. I started an evening floristry course as a side-line to my art foundation studies and quickly realised I loved flowers; it was an amazing creative outlet for me. This led to me cancelling my university place, working for various other florists while undertaking a level three course in floristry and finally opening my store Bramble & Wild!

An array of fresh flowers available everyday

What advice do you have for anyone wanting to get into the trade?

Don’t underestimate the value of college courses, and don’t fall into the trap of spending thousands for short courses. Learning on the job has a lot of value in floristry and you really do need to master the basics before starting on the big stuff.

Bramble & Wild is known for its artisan aesthetic, what inspired your decision to move away from traditional styling?

I’ve never been one to stick to the rules and I love a real mixture of flowers and textures together. The shops floral aesthetic comes from my own slightly eclectic style; an emporium of creative inspiration. My store is situated on Catherine Hill in the picturesque trendy town of Frome. The whole hill is brimming with creative people and inspiring stores which works perfectly for Bramble & Wild!

If you weren’t a florist, what would you be doing now?

I was heading to university to become a photographer before flowers took over, so I would probably be doing something with that.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

If I could go anywhere in the world I would go to Mexico – hopefully I will someday! I’m a bit obsessed with Mexican food, the spicier the better! I’d absolutely love to see the Carnival, all the colours and music must be awe inspiring!

Finally, what is the one thing you can’t live without?

In the shop it’s my Japanese steel scissors as they cut through anything, but otherwise, my little sidekick Bracken the Labrador.
